THE NARRATORS

THE SECOND TUESDAY OF EVERY MONTH

The Narrators is a live storytelling show and podcast based in Denver, Colorado and San Diego, California. Our organization is dedicated to promoting the art of true storytelling and providing community access to storytelling events.

Contact

You can contact us through The Narrators’ Facebook page or send an email to thenarrators3000@gmail.com. Want to tell a story? Check our FAQ.

Background

The Narrators started in 2010 as a small live storytelling show in Denver, Colorado at Paris on the Platte wine bar. The show was founded by comedian and actor Andrew Orvedahl, and has grown dramatically over the last eight years. In addition to regular monthly shows in Denver and San Diego, we publish a popular weekly podcast, have a syndicated audio series with Audible/Rooftop Media, and have collaborated on special projects with organizations such as Pivot TV, Colorado Public Radio, Denver Art Museum, Denver Museum of Nature & Science, Denver Music Summit, Denver Film Festival, Off-Center at Jones Theater, Buntport Theater, High Plains Comedy Festival, Audiovore’s Fortunate Listener, Rooftop Comedy, Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra, the Flobots, Stories on Stage, and Warm Cookies of the Revolution.

Live Shows

  • The Narrators Denver is a live monthly storytelling show in Denver hosted by Ron S. Doyle and Erin Rollman. Comedians, actors, musicians, writers, and other fascinating folks share true stories from their lives, centered on a monthly theme. The show takes place at Buntport Theater (717 Lipan St) in beautiful Denver, Colorado at 8:00 p.m. every third Wednesday of the month. The show is always free. Beer and wine are available by donation.
  • The Narrators San Diego is a live monthly storytelling show in San Diego hosted by Mary Robertson and Robert Rutherford. The show takes place at Tiger! Tiger! Tavern (3025 El Cajon Blvd) in San Diego, California at 8:00 p.m. every second Tuesday of the month. The show is free as the air you breathe. Tiger! Tiger! serves beer and wine and fries so good you’ll wanna slap your own mother with joy for giving birth to you and allowing you to eat these glorious fried taters.

ABOUT:
On both sides of our border, we have unbelievable chefs, musicians, artists, and educators. We've got superhero activists, mead-makers, political pioneers, & entrepreneurs galore. We have more farms per capita than anywhere in the nation, more resettled refugees than any other city, and are a part of a binational ecosystem that has the most crossed border in the world running through it. This complex & potent reality is not always the narrative that's broadcasted to the world about San Diego/Tijuana. By amplifying the voices of unique individuals and understanding their work, we hope to better grasp the forces shaping our dynamic region. We aim to energize & inspire our culture into greater engagement, participation, and collaboration. Our conversations with local luminaries are recorded LIVE in front of real humans like you every single month at Tiger! Tiger! Sometimes it’s nice to connect with people in a physical space and not just on the internet. Open discourse outside of the internet is important, so join us, have a drink or three, listen to questions & answers, and make new friends who are friendly and awesome. Maybe you’ll even learn something. Past episodes available for listening on Itunes, Stitchr, & Soundcloud. https://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/cura-caos/id1149670374?mt=2 https://soundcloud.com/user-727286176

If you park behind T-Mobile you will get towed. 24hrs a day! 7 days a week! Seriously! It will cost you a ton and ruin your night. We wish we could do something about it, but the landlord next door doesn't care. Sorry.

DRAFT MAGAZINE
100 BEST BEER BARS IN AMERICA

We've been on the 100 Best Beer Bars in America list every year we've been open. We'd like to think it's because we give a shit. Seriously, between our direct draw, stainless steel draught system, to our crazy draft tech program, to our line cleaning between every keg change, we are serious about beer.

BEST SAUSAGE

We make all of our own charcuterie in house, and it was nice to see people care and voted us Best Sausage in the SD City Beat "Best of" issue.

GIVING

When we started BLAH back in 2009 we knew we wanted to figure out how we could be a true positive on our community. So, we reached out to friends and asked how we could help. Ever since then we've had a blast helping people help people by raising funds and awareness for the true Agents of Change.

SDAgentsOfChange2018_logo_600.jpg

SD AGENTS OF CHANGE

“Giving is about more than donating money. It’s about sharing your capabilities, content, and connections—and above all, giving others the chance to be heard, respected, and valued.”

Adam Grant

And honestly that’s what this is about. Sure, we can and will donate some much needed money. But  it’s also about connecting some of our guests to local community organizations they may know little or nothing about. So to that end, here are the Agents of Change for 2018.

We pledge to donate 20% of meatless sales at Blind Lady on Mondays and 10% of food sales at Tiger! TIger! On Thursdays to the following organizations during their month. We also invite these groups to hang out, set up shop in a spot at the restaurant and if guests want to inquire, talk, kibbutz, support, question, they are there to do so. And finally, we will host or co-host some events, outings or visits with many of the following groups throughout the year.

JAN - San Diego Area NOW - Supporting San Diego Feminists since 1970

FEB - Trashy Hour - Cleaning up North Park and Normal Heights one piece a trash at a time. (BLAH-TT-HOME BREWING)

MARCH - Grid Alternatives - bringing the benefits of solar technology to communities that would not otherwise have access, providing needed savings for families, preparing workers for jobs in the fast-growing solar industry, and helping clean our environment - seriously, this one is COOL!

APRIL - Youth Assistance Coalition - BLAH-Katie's amazing org—Meeting homeless youth on the street and connecting them with housing, education & training. One of our own!!

MAY - Bikes - Bike Advocacy groups X 4, just like last year.

JUNE - Adams Avenue Elementary School - Our local school in need of after-school clubs to provide free after-school care to the kids.

JULY - Digital Gym/Media Arts - The Digital Gym Cinema is a non-profit movie theater which screens foreign and independent movies that would otherwise never be shown in San Diego. It's owned and operated by Media Arts Center San Diego which has been promoting independent movies and teaching the art of filmmaking for over 24 years in the San Diego – Baja California Region. Our neighbors!

AUGUST - The Alpha Project - Empowering Homeless with Housing, Skills Training & More.

SEPT - CASA - Recruiting, training and supervising thousands of CASAs who advocate for the rights and well-being of children who pass through foster care in San Diego County.

OCT - Border Angels - Preventing unecessary deaths and harm reduction for Migrant workers, as well as education and assistance with immigration issues.

NOV - Innocence Project -  A law school clinic dedicated to freeing the innocent, training law students, and changing laws and policies in the state of California.

DEC - SD Refugee Tutoring - Achieving social justice through educational access by providing one-on-one tutoring and holistic academic support to refugees at Ibarra Elementary School in City Heights

CANCER FOR COLLEGE

Our relationship with C4C has been an amazing one. We've hosted beer crawls and pairings dinners with Will Ferrell, brewed Will Powered IPA, hosted their awards gala and raised thousands of dollars to help people achieve their dreams of earning a college degree.

BREWBIES

Every year we look forward to supporting our friends at Brewbies Fest.

Leveraging her long-standing, sincere relationships with dozens of breweries and their brewers, Melanie was able to create one of the first beer festivals to benefit a nonprofit organization.  She called it Brewbies® - never knowing if the first one would also be the last – and decided on the beneficiary. It was here the two worlds combined: craft beer and Keep A Breast.

To date, Brewbies® is looking forward to its 9th year, is now held in two cities, and has raised over $350,000.
